Home > Guides > How To Open A CDR File Without CorelDRAW (For Free)

You might already be aware that the CDR file format is the default used by CorelDRAW, so to be able to open this file format you would need to have CorelDRAW installed on your computer.

But just like many other file formats, there are always other programs and methods that will open a format that is the default for another program.

So in this guide, we will be taking a look at how to open a .CDR file without having CorelDRAW installed. I have listed two different ways that you can achieve this below, and to make things even better the programs that I have listed that you can use are free. So you can open CorelDraws CDR file for free.

How to open CDR file without CorelDraw

Method 1

Inkscape is a free open source program that you can use to open your .cdr file.

First, you need to head over to the Inkscape website here and download then install the program to your computer

Once you have installed Inkscape launch the program

Now click on File then Open and find the cdr file on your computer and open it

That’s it you have now opened a cdr file without CorelDraw

Method 2

LibreOfficeDraw is also another free program that can view and edit .CDR files

First, you need to head over to the LibreOffice website here and download then install the program to your computer

Once you have installed LibreOffice launch the program

Now click on File then Open and find the cdr file on your computer and open it

Why won’t .CDR file open?

unable to open CDR file with the InkScape program or LibreDraw, there are two reasons why you might not be able to open the .cdr file.

It could either be that the file for some reason has become corrupted or the file is currently open somewhere else on your system, making it locked so restart your computer and try opening the file again.

I hope the above guide has helped you open a .cdr file on your computer without having CorelDraw installed. If you did enjoy this guide and found it helpful then I am sure you would like some of our other Windows guides.
