Getting started with Easy Gamer Utility

Getting started with Easy Gamer Utility

This guide will help you get started with Easy Gamer Utility and understand the main parts of the program.

Easy Gamer Utility contains many different Windows gaming tools, but you do not need to set up or use everything straight away.

You can simply open the program, choose the section you need and follow the instructions shown on the screen.

Before you start

Before using Easy Gamer Utility, it is a good idea to:

  • Close any games you are currently playing
  • Save any open work
  • Make sure Windows has finished installing updates
  • Close a game launcher before cleaning its cache files
  • Read any warning messages before continuing

Some tools make changes to Windows or permanently remove temporary files. Easy Gamer Utility will normally ask you to confirm before completing these actions.

Open Easy Gamer Utility

Open Easy Gamer Utility using its desktop shortcut or from the Windows Start menu.

When the program opens, you will see the main navigation menu across the top of the window.

The available sections include:

  • Game Data
  • Clean
  • Launch
  • Files
  • Network
  • Game Booster
  • Advisor
  • Diagnose
  • Fix
  • Monitor
  • Tweaks

Click a section name to open it.

Some sections also contain a second row of smaller tabs. These let you move between the different tools inside that section.

Allow Easy Gamer Utility to update

Easy Gamer Utility may check for a newer version when it starts.

When an update is available, the program may show an update window or begin installing the latest version.

Allow the update to finish before using the program.

Keeping Easy Gamer Utility updated gives you access to the latest fixes, supported games and features.

Do not close Easy Gamer Utility or turn off your computer while an update is being installed.

Understanding the main Easy Gamer Utility sections

You do not need to learn every section before using the program. The short explanations below will help you find the correct area.

Game Data

See also: How to update Easy Gamer Utility Article

The Game Data section helps you find large game folders and other game-related files using storage space.

Use this section when you want to see which games or folders are taking up space on your drive.

Clean

The Clean section contains tools for checking and removing temporary cache files.

These files may be created by game launchers, graphics drivers and other gaming software.

Where an Analyze button is available, use this first. It lets you see whether Easy Gamer Utility can find any files before you choose to remove them.

Launch

See also: Why Easy Gamer Utility may require administrator permission Article

The Launch section lets you add, organise and start games from Easy Gamer Utility.

It also includes options for changing how games are launched and accessing Windows startup tools.

Some advanced launch features require Easy Gamer Utility Pro.

Files

The Files section helps you open supported game locations, including:

  • Saved game folders
  • Configuration folders
  • Mod folders
  • Game installation folders

This section can also be used to create backups of supported game save data.

Network

The Network section contains tools for checking and repairing common internet or network problems.

You can use it to:

  • Clear the DNS cache
  • Reset a network adapter
  • Check a server connection
  • Run a ping test
  • View latency and jitter

Some network tools may require administrator permission.

Game Booster

The Game Booster section lets you temporarily reduce selected background activity while gaming.

You choose which options Game Booster uses before turning it on.

Do not select every option without reading what it does. Start with only the features you understand.

Advisor

The Advisor section contains the Performance Advisor.

This tool scans your computer for settings, hardware conditions and running programs that could affect gaming.

Click Scan to begin.

When the scan has finished, Easy Gamer Utility will display:

  • Your Gaming Health Score
  • The number of possible issues found
  • A description of each issue
  • A recommended action
  • The possible impact on gaming

The Performance Advisor gives advice. It does not automatically change every setting it finds.

Diagnose

The Diagnose section lets you check Windows for recent errors and warnings.

This can be useful when a game is crashing or your computer is behaving unexpectedly.

Windows records many normal and harmless errors, so you should not assume every listed error is a serious problem.

Fix

The Fix section contains repair tools for supported games, launchers and emulators.

It also includes custom game fixing and dead pixel tools.

Always close the affected game and its launcher before attempting a fix.

Monitor

The Monitor section can be used to watch the price of supported Steam games.

You will need the Steam AppID for the game you want to add.

Tweaks

The Tweaks section contains Windows settings that may be useful for gaming.

Some tweaks require administrator permission and can change how Windows behaves.

Create a restore point before applying Windows tweaks, especially when using the feature for the first time.

A good first tool to try

A simple way to begin is by running the Performance Advisor.

To run your first scan:

  1. Open Easy Gamer Utility.
  2. Click Advisor at the top.
  3. Click Scan.
  4. Wait for the scan to finish.
  5. Read each result shown.
  6. Follow only the recommendations that you understand.

The scan may take a short time because Easy Gamer Utility needs to check different parts of your computer.

A detected issue does not always mean something is broken. It means Easy Gamer Utility found something that may affect gaming on some computers.

Analyse files before cleaning them

When using the Clean section for the first time, use the Analyze button where one is available.

This shows you which cache files Easy Gamer Utility has found without removing them.

To analyse launcher cache files:

  1. Click Clean.
  2. Open the Game Launchers section.
  3. Find the launcher you want to check.
  4. Click Analyze.
  5. Review the results.

When you are ready to remove the files, click Clean and accept the confirmation message.

Close the related game launcher before cleaning its cache. For example, close Steam before cleaning the Steam cache.

What do the Pro labels mean?

Some Easy Gamer Utility tools have an orange Pro label next to them.

These features require Easy Gamer Utility Pro.

You can still use the tools included with the free version. A disabled button or Pro label does not mean the program is broken.

The exact features available will depend on whether you are using Easy Gamer Utility Free or Easy Gamer Utility Pro.

Running Easy Gamer Utility as an administrator

Most basic tools can be used without administrator permission.

Some features need extra Windows permission because they change protected settings, services, network adapters or system folders.

When administrator permission is needed:

  1. Save anything you are doing inside Easy Gamer Utility.
  2. Click Run EGU as admin at the top of the window.
  3. Click Yes when Windows asks for permission.
  4. Wait for Easy Gamer Utility to reopen.

The program should now have administrator permission.

You do not need to run Easy Gamer Utility as an administrator every time unless you regularly use features that require it.

Change the basic settings

Click the cog icon near the top-right corner to open the Settings section.

You can use the Settings page to change options such as:

  • Start Easy Gamer Utility with Windows
  • Hide the new update notification
  • Enable Resource Monitor alerts
  • Share anonymous usage statistics
  • Choose which tab opens first
  • Set the Ubisoft Connect location

You do not need to change any settings before using the program.

When you have made your changes, click Save Settings.

Choose which tab opens first

Easy Gamer Utility can open directly to a section you use regularly.

To change the startup tab:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Find the Startup Tab options.
  3. Choose the main section you want to open.
  4. Choose its smaller section if available.
  5. Click Save Settings.

For example, you could set Easy Gamer Utility to open directly to the Clean tab and Game Launchers section.

Setting the Ubisoft Connect location

Some Ubisoft tools need to know where Ubisoft Connect is installed.

The default location may already be correct.

If Easy Gamer Utility cannot find Ubisoft Connect:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Find the Ubisoft Path box.
  3. Click the folder button beside it.
  4. Find and select UbisoftConnect.exe.
  5. Click Save Settings.

Do not select a game file. You need to select the Ubisoft Connect program file.

Starting Easy Gamer Utility with Windows

The Settings page includes an option to start Easy Gamer Utility when Windows starts.

When this option is enabled, Easy Gamer Utility may open hidden in the Windows system tray instead of displaying the full window.

Enable this option only when you want Easy Gamer Utility or one of its background features to be available automatically.

To turn it on:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tick Start Easy Gamer Utility with Windows.
  3. Click Save Settings.

To turn it off, remove the tick and save the settings again.

Minimising Easy Gamer Utility

Clicking the minimise button hides Easy Gamer Utility from the main taskbar and keeps it available in the Windows system tray.

The system tray is the small icon area near the clock in the bottom-right corner of Windows.

To open Easy Gamer Utility again:

  1. Look near the Windows clock.
  2. Click the small arrow if the Easy Gamer Utility icon is hidden.
  3. Find the Easy Gamer Utility icon.
  4. Open the program from the icon.

Minimising the window does not fully close Easy Gamer Utility.

Closing Easy Gamer Utility completely

Click the X in the top-right corner of Easy Gamer Utility when you want to close the program completely.

This stops the program and removes its system tray icon.

If Easy Gamer Utility is only minimised, it may still be running in the background.

Why is a button disabled?

A button may be unavailable for several reasons:

  • The feature requires Easy Gamer Utility Pro
  • Easy Gamer Utility needs administrator permission
  • The required game, folder or program was not found
  • You need to select an item first
  • You need to tick a confirmation box
  • A scan or task is already running

Read the text around the button because it will normally explain what is required.

What should you use first?

For your first time using Easy Gamer Utility, try the following:

  1. Allow any available update to finish.
  2. Open Advisor and run a Performance Advisor scan.
  3. Read the results without changing anything immediately.
  4. Open Clean and analyse one game launcher.
  5. Open Settings and check the available options.
  6. Save the settings if you make any changes.

This will help you understand how Easy Gamer Utility works without making lots of changes to your computer at once.

Basic safety tips

When using Easy Gamer Utility:
