Why Easy Gamer Utility may require administrator permission
Why Easy Gamer Utility may require administrator permission
Some Easy Gamer Utility features may require administrator permission before they can work correctly.
This is normal and does not mean that there is a problem with Easy Gamer Utility or your computer.
Windows protects important system settings so that ordinary programs cannot change them without your permission. When Easy Gamer Utility needs to use one of these protected settings, Windows may ask you to approve administrator access.
What is administrator permission?

Administrator permission gives a program temporary access to protected parts of Windows.
A program running normally can open files, display information and use standard Windows features. However, it may be blocked from changing important system areas.
Running Easy Gamer Utility as an administrator allows it to use tools that may need to change:
- Windows services
- Network adapters
- Power settings
- Protected registry settings
- System configuration
- Process priorities
- Protected files and folders
Windows controls this access through a security message called User Account Control, also known as UAC.
What does the Windows permission message look like?
When Easy Gamer Utility requests administrator access, Windows may display a message asking:
Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?
Check that the app name relates to Easy Gamer Utility, and then click Yes to continue.
If your Windows account is not an administrator, Windows may ask you to enter an administrator password.
Clicking No will cancel the request. Easy Gamer Utility can still open normally, but tools that require administrator permission may not work.

Easy Gamer Utility contains several tools that interact with Windows.
Windows allows the program to perform simple tasks without extra permission. More advanced tools may need administrator access because they change settings that affect the whole computer.
The sections below explain some of the main reasons.
Network repair tools
Some network tools need permission to change how Windows connects to your network.
This can include tools that:
- Reset a network adapter
- Change your local IP address
- Remove an old network adapter
- Restart network services
- Change protected network settings
Without administrator permission, Windows may block the action or the tool may appear to do nothing.
Basic connection checks, such as a ping test, will not normally need administrator permission because they only check the connection.
Windows Tweaks

The Tweaks section can change Windows settings that are protected from ordinary programs.
These changes may include options related to:
- Windows power plans
- Xbox Game Bar
- Hibernation
- Fast Startup
- Windows notifications
- Graphics settings
- Other system features
Easy Gamer Utility may also need administrator permission to create a Windows restore point.
You should create a restore point before applying Windows tweaks. This gives you a way to undo certain system changes if something does not work as expected.
Game Booster features
Game Boost Mode can temporarily change selected Windows settings and reduce background activity while you are gaming.
Depending on the options you enable, Game Booster may try to:
- Pause Windows services
- Change the active power plan
- Lower the priority of background programs
- Close selected programs
- Pause Windows updates
- Change Windows Game Mode
- Stop or restart Windows Explorer
Windows may block some of these actions unless Easy Gamer Utility has administrator permission.
You do not need administrator permission just to open the Game Booster section and view its options.
Force Game High Priority

The Force Game High Priority feature tells Windows to launch a selected game using High Priority.
This feature changes a protected Windows registry setting. Administrator permission is therefore required.
High Priority does not guarantee better game performance. It may cause problems with some games, anti-cheat software or background programs.
Only use this option after reading the warning shown in Easy Gamer Utility.
Cleaning protected files
Most game launcher cache files are stored inside your Windows user folders and may be cleaned without administrator access.
However, some cache files, driver folders or game files may be stored in protected locations, such as:
- Program Files
- Program Files (x86)
- ProgramData
- Windows system folders
- Another Windows user’s folder
Easy Gamer Utility may need administrator permission to access or remove files from these locations.
Files that are currently being used by a game, launcher or Windows may still be skipped, even when Easy Gamer Utility is running as an administrator.
Close the related game and launcher before cleaning its files.
Game and launcher repair tools
Some repair tools may need to change game files, launcher files, services or system settings.
If the game or launcher is installed inside a protected Windows folder, Easy Gamer Utility may need administrator permission to complete the repair.
Close the game and its launcher before running a fix.
Administrator access allows Easy Gamer Utility to attempt the repair, but it cannot guarantee that every problem will be fixed.
Does Easy Gamer Utility always need administrator permission?
No.
Many Easy Gamer Utility features can be used normally without administrator permission.
These can include:
- Viewing the Easy Gamer Utility interface
- Running basic Performance Advisor checks
- Finding supported game folders
- Viewing storage information
- Opening save-data locations
- Launching games
- Running a basic ping test
- Viewing Windows error information
- Monitoring Steam game prices
- Analysing supported cache folders
You only need to restart Easy Gamer Utility as an administrator when a tool requires the extra permission.
How to run Easy Gamer Utility as an administrator
Easy Gamer Utility includes a button that can restart the program with administrator permission.
To use it:
- Save or finish any task currently running in Easy Gamer Utility.
- Click Run EGU as admin near the top of the program.
- Wait for the Windows permission message.
- Click Yes.
- Easy Gamer Utility will close and reopen with administrator permission.
The administrator button may disappear after the program reopens. This normally means Easy Gamer Utility has detected that it is already running as an administrator.
Another way to run Easy Gamer Utility as an administrator
You can also use the Windows right-click menu.
- Close Easy Gamer Utility.
- Find the Easy Gamer Utility shortcut.
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Click Run as administrator.
- Click Yes when Windows asks for permission.
Easy Gamer Utility will then open with administrator access.
How do I know if administrator mode is active?
When Easy Gamer Utility is running as an administrator, the Run EGU as admin button and related permission messages may no longer be shown.
You can also check using Windows Task Manager:
- Open Task Manager.
- Click Details.
- Right-click the column headings.
- Click Select columns.
- Enable Elevated.
- Find Easy Gamer Utility in the list.
If the Elevated column shows Yes, the program is running as an administrator.
You do not normally need to perform this check. If the administrator button disappears after you approve the Windows message, administrator mode should be active.
What happens if I click No?
If you click No on the Windows permission message, Easy Gamer Utility will not restart with administrator access.
This will not damage the program or your computer.
You can continue using features that do not require administrator permission. You can also try the Run EGU as admin button again later.
What if the administrator prompt does not appear?
Try these steps:
- Close Easy Gamer Utility completely.
- Find its desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Check whether Windows displays the permission message.
If nothing happens, your Windows account may be restricted by a parent, school, workplace or system administrator.
You may need the computer owner or administrator to approve the request.
Why does Windows ask for an administrator password?
This normally means you are using a standard Windows account rather than an administrator account.
A standard account cannot approve protected system changes on its own.
You will need someone with an administrator account to enter their password.
Easy Gamer Utility cannot bypass or remove this Windows protection.
Is administrator permission the same as Easy Gamer Utility Pro?
No.
Administrator permission and Easy Gamer Utility Pro are separate things.
Administrator permission is provided by Windows and allows the program to access protected system settings.
Easy Gamer Utility Pro is the paid version of the software and unlocks additional features.
Running the free version as an administrator does not unlock Pro features.
Activating Pro also does not automatically give the program administrator permission.
A Pro feature may still require you to click Run EGU as admin before it can make a protected Windows change.
Is it safe to allow administrator permission?
Only give administrator permission to programs you trust.
Before clicking Yes, make sure:
- You downloaded Easy Gamer Utility from the official ComputerSluggish website or an official store
- The permission message refers to Easy Gamer Utility
- You opened the program yourself
- You understand which tool you are about to use
Administrator access gives a program more control over Windows, so you should always read the permission message before accepting it.
Do I need to leave Easy Gamer Utility running as an administrator?
No.
You can close Easy Gamer Utility after you have finished using the required tool.
The administrator permission only applies to that running copy of the program. The next time you open Easy Gamer Utility normally, it may run without administrator permission again.
You can use Run EGU as admin whenever you need to access a protected feature.
Why is a feature still not working in administrator mode?
Administrator permission does not guarantee that every action will succeed.
A tool may still fail because:
- A file is currently being used
- A game or launcher is still open
- Security software is blocking the action
- The required folder was not found
- The feature is not supported on your Windows version
- A network adapter or service is missing
- The selected feature requires Easy Gamer Utility Pro
- Your computer is controlled by an organisation
- Windows has prevented the change for another security reason
Close the affected game or launcher and try again. Restarting Windows may also release files that were locked by another program.
Administrator permission in simple terms
Easy Gamer Utility only needs administrator permission when it must access a protected part of Windows.
You can use many basic tools without it.
When extra permission is required, click Run EGU as admin, approve the Windows message and then try the tool again.
The administrator request is a normal Windows security feature and does not mean that something is wrong with Easy Gamer Utility.
