How to Clear Browser Cache Files in Windows
How to Clean Browser Cache Files with Easy System Utility
Web browsers save temporary copies of website files so pages can load more quickly when you visit them again. This stored data is known as the browser cache.
Over time, browser cache files can build up and use disk space. An outdated or damaged cache can also occasionally cause websites to display incorrectly, load old content or behave unexpectedly.
Easy System Utility can analyse and clean cache files created by supported Windows browsers, including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Brave. You can select the browser data you want to check, run an analysis and then clean the files when you are ready.

When you open a website, your browser may save copies of files such as:
- Images
- Website scripts
- Stylesheets
- Page resources
- Fonts
- Temporary website data
The next time you visit the same website, the browser may load some of these files from your computer instead of downloading them again.
This can make pages load faster and reduce the amount of data that needs to be downloaded.
Browser cache files are different from bookmarks, saved passwords and browsing history. Easy System Utility lists supported browser data separately, allowing you to select cache files without automatically removing every other type of browser information.
Why might you clear your browser cache?
You may want to clear browser cache files when:
- A website is displaying outdated content
- A page is not loading correctly
- Images or styles appear broken
- A browser is using a large amount of disk space
- You are troubleshooting a website problem
- The browser has accumulated old temporary data
- You want to carry out a general Windows cleanup
Clearing the cache does not normally remove your bookmarks or downloaded files.
However, websites may take slightly longer to load the first time you revisit them because the browser must download fresh copies of the required resources.

To find the browser cleaning options:
- Open Easy System Utility.
- Select Clean from the left-hand menu.
- Select Software beneath the cleaning list.
- Scroll through the available software and browser options.
Easy System Utility separates Windows cleaning from software cleaning.
The Windows section contains temporary data created by Windows itself, while the Software section contains data created by supported browsers and installed applications.
Supported browser cleaning options
The Software list can include entries for browsers such as:
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
- Brave
The exact options available can vary between browsers.
You may see separate entries for:
- Cache
- Login data
- Session data
- Form history
- Top sites
- Visited links
- Browsing or session history
These entries are separate because they contain different types of information.
When you only want to clear temporary website files, select the option labelled Cache for the browser you use.

How to clean the Brave browser cache
To clear the Brave cache:
- Close all Brave browser windows.
- Open the Software cleaning list in Easy System Utility.
- Find Brave Cache.
- Tick the cache option.
- Select Analyze.
- Review the result.
- Select Clean.
Brave can also have separate entries for login data, sessions, top sites and visited links.
These are not required for a normal cache cleanup. Leave them unticked when you only want to remove temporary website files.
Close the browser before cleaning
It is best to close the selected browser before running the analysis and cleanup.
Browsers can keep cache databases and temporary files open while they are running. Some browsers also remain active in the background after the final window has been closed.
Closing the browser helps Easy System Utility:
- Access more of the selected cache files
- Avoid files being locked during cleaning
- Produce a more accurate analysis
- Complete the cleanup with fewer skipped files
Save any open forms, messages or unsent work before closing the browser.
Analyse the browser cache first
After selecting the cache options you want to check, click Analyze.
Easy System Utility will scan the supported browser cache locations and calculate how much removable data it finds.
The analysis does not delete anything.
This allows you to see whether the browser has accumulated a noticeable amount of cached data before beginning the cleanup.
The amount shown may vary depending on:
- How frequently you use the browser
- The number of websites you visit
- Whether the browser recently cleared its own cache
- Browser storage limits
- Whether the browser is still running
- The number of browser profiles on the computer
Clean the selected browser cache
Once the analysis is complete, review your selections and click Clean.
Easy System Utility will attempt to remove the cache files found for the selected browsers.
Some files may be skipped if they are still being used by the browser or another background process.
When this happens:
- Close the browser completely.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Open Windows Task Manager and check whether the browser is still running.
- Close any remaining browser processes only when you are sure no browser work is still open.
- Run the analysis and cleanup again.
Restarting Windows can also release cache files that remained locked.
Will clearing the browser cache sign you out?
Clearing the cache alone does not normally sign you out of websites.
Login information is usually stored separately in cookies, login databases or session files.
Easy System Utility may show separate browser options for login data and session information. Selecting those additional options may affect whether you remain signed in.
To reduce the chance of being signed out:
- Select only the browser cache option
- Leave login data unticked
- Leave session data unticked
- Leave form history unticked
- Review all browser selections before clicking Clean
The exact result can vary between browsers and websites, so keep important login details available before clearing additional browser data.
What is browser login data?
Browser login data can include information used to remember website sign-ins or stored credentials.
Removing this data may cause websites to forget saved login information.
Do not select login data simply because you are clearing the browser cache. It is a separate cleaning option and should only be removed when you intentionally want to clear it.
What is browser session data?
Session data helps a browser remember the current browsing session.
It may be used to restore open tabs or keep websites active between browser restarts.
Clearing session information can prevent previously open tabs from being restored and may sign you out of active website sessions.
Select cache files only when you want a normal temporary file cleanup.
What are visited links and top sites?
Visited links and top sites are records used by some browsers to remember frequently visited pages or show shortcuts on a new tab page.
Removing these may change which websites appear as suggestions or frequently visited shortcuts.
They are not the same as browser cache files and are not required for a basic cache cleanup.
Can you clean more than one browser at once?
Yes. You can select cache options for several supported browsers before running the analysis.
For example, you could select:
- Google Chrome Cache
- Microsoft Edge Cache
- Mozilla Firefox Cache
- Brave Cache
Easy System Utility will check each selected location during the same analysis.
Close every browser you have selected before starting the cleanup.
If you regularly switch between several browsers, cleaning them together can be quicker than opening each browser and clearing its cache separately.
Save your browser cleaning selections
After selecting the browser cache options you regularly want to use, click Save Selections.
Easy System Utility will remember the selected Windows and software cleaning categories.
This makes future browser cache cleaning quicker because you do not need to find and select each browser again.
Review the saved options whenever you make changes. In particular, check that login or session data has not been selected accidentally.
Automatically clean browser cache with PRO
Easy System Utility PRO can automatically run your saved cleaning selections.
After choosing the browser cache options and clicking Save Selections, open Settings and configure Automatic Cleaning.
You can choose to run the saved cleanup:
- Daily
- Weekly
- Monthly
- When Windows starts
Automatic browser cache cleaning can be useful if you regularly use several browsers or want temporary website files removed as part of your normal PC maintenance.
A weekly or monthly schedule is likely to be enough for most users.
Before enabling automation, make sure your saved selections contain only the browser information you are comfortable removing.
Do you need administrator permission?
Browser caches are normally stored inside your Windows user profile, so administrator permission may not always be required.
However, running Easy System Utility as an administrator may help when:
- Cache files belong to another Windows account
- A protected location cannot be accessed
- Some selected files are repeatedly skipped
- The browser was installed for every Windows user
- Security permissions have been changed
Use Start ESU as administrator from the left-hand menu, approve the Windows prompt and then run the cleaner again.
Files that are still actively used by the browser may remain locked even with administrator access.
Why does the browser cache return after cleaning?
Browser cache files are created again as soon as you begin visiting websites.
This is normal and does not mean the cleanup failed.
The browser rebuilds the cache to improve loading times and avoid downloading the same website resources repeatedly.
The aim of cleaning is to remove the existing cache when it is outdated, unusually large or causing a problem. It is not possible or desirable to prevent the browser from ever creating cached data.
Why did Easy System Utility find no browser cache?
Little or no cache may be found when:
- The browser was recently installed
- The cache was recently cleared
- You have not used the browser much
- The browser automatically removed its cache
- The wrong browser option was selected
- The browser uses a different Windows profile
- The cache folder is currently inaccessible
- A portable browser version is being used
Check that you selected the correct browser and cache option.
Easy System Utility cleans supported browser installations and may not detect every portable or customised browser location.
Can clearing cache fix website problems?
Clearing browser cache can help when a website is loading an old or damaged copy of a resource.
It may help with issues such as:
- Old website designs still appearing
- Images not loading correctly
- Buttons or menus behaving unexpectedly
- A recently updated website showing old content
- Stylesheets not loading properly
- Pages displaying differently from another device
It will not fix every browser or website problem.
If the issue continues, try:
- Reloading the page
- Testing the website in another browser
- Disabling browser extensions temporarily
- Checking the internet connection
- Repairing the browser with the Easy System Utility PRO repair tools
- Checking whether the website itself is unavailable
Does clearing cache make a browser faster?
Clearing a very large or damaged cache may help resolve browser problems and free disk space.
However, websites can initially load more slowly after the cache has been removed because their files must be downloaded again.
Browser speed also depends on:
- Internet connection
- Number of open tabs
- Installed extensions
- Available memory
- Background programs
- Browser profile health
- Website performance
Cache cleaning is useful maintenance, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed fix for every slow browser.
Browser cache and Windows temporary files
Browser cache files are selected from the Software section.
Windows temporary files are selected from the Windows section.
You can clean both during the same session:
- Select the required Windows cleaning categories.
- Switch to Software.
- Select the browser cache options.
- Close the selected browsers.
- Click Analyze.
- Review the result.
- Click Clean.
This provides a broader cleanup without requiring you to run separate tools.
