What Is Blocker Web?
What Is Blocker Web?
Blocker Web is a Windows application that helps you block distracting, unwanted, or inappropriate websites on your computer.
It allows you to create your own list of websites and control when those websites should be blocked. You can quickly turn website blocking on or off without removing the websites from your list.
Blocker Web is designed for people who want a simple way to manage website access on a Windows computer.
What Can Blocker Web Be Used For?
Blocker Web can be useful in many different situations.
You may want to use it to:
- Reduce distractions while working or studying
- Block social media websites during focus time
- Prevent access to selected websites on a family computer
- Temporarily restrict websites that affect productivity
- Block websites that you do not want opened on a particular PC
- Create a more controlled browsing environment
You decide which websites are added to the block list and when blocking is enabled.
Main Blocker Web Features
Blocker Web includes several tools for managing website access.
Custom Website Block List
You can add individual website domains to your own block list.
For example, you could add:
facebook.com
youtube.com
example.com
Blocker Web saves the website list so it is available the next time the application is opened.
Quick Blocking Controls
Website blocking can be switched on or off from the main Blocker Web window.
Turning blocking off does not delete your saved websites. It temporarily allows access to them until blocking is turned back on.
This makes it easy to pause website blocking without rebuilding your list.
Website Information
When adding a website, you can select a reason for blocking it.
Blocker Web can also display information such as:
- The website address
- The date it was added
- The reason it was blocked
This helps you keep your blocked website list organised.
Internet Lock
Blocker Web also includes an Internet Lock feature.
This is different from blocking individual websites. Internet Lock can block common web traffic across the computer, rather than only blocking the websites in your saved list.
Web access can be restored from inside Blocker Web when it is needed again.
Password Protection
Blocker Web can be protected with a password.
When password protection is enabled, the password must be entered before the main application can be opened.
This can help prevent other users from changing the blocked website list or turning blocking off.
Custom Blocked Website Page
Blocker Web can display a simple message when someone attempts to visit a blocked website.
This lets the user know that the website has been blocked on the computer instead of only showing a browser connection error.
The exact result can vary depending on the browser and whether the website uses a secure HTTPS connection.
Hosts File Recovery Tools
Blocker Web includes tools for managing the Windows hosts file.
The application automatically attempts to create a backup of the hosts file the first time it runs.
From the Settings area, you can:
- Restore the original hosts file backup
- Reset the hosts file to the Windows default
- Remove website entries created through Blocker Web
These recovery options are useful if you need to reverse the changes made by the application.
System Tray Support
Blocker Web can continue running from the Windows system tray when the main window is minimised.
You can reopen the application by double-clicking the Blocker Web tray icon or by using its right-click menu.
Blocker Web Free and Pro
Blocker Web is available in Free and Pro versions.
The Free version includes the main website-blocking tools and allows a limited number of websites to be added.
Blocker Web Pro increases the website allowance and unlocks additional remote-control features.
A separate guide explains the differences between the two versions in more detail.
How Does Blocker Web Block Websites?
Blocker Web uses built-in Windows features to control website access.
Individual websites are managed through the Windows hosts file, while Internet Lock uses Windows Firewall rules.
You do not need to edit these Windows files manually. Blocker Web provides a simpler interface for managing the changes.
Is Blocker Web a Browser Extension?
No. Blocker Web is a Windows desktop application rather than a browser extension.
Because it works through Windows, its website-blocking rules can affect multiple browsers installed on the same computer.
