What does the PS4 controller red light mean?

You might be getting the red light on your controller because the hardware has become faulty, but if you are still able to use the controller then it could also suggest there is a problem with its USB port charger.

How to fix PS4 controller red light issue

  1. Charge the Controller: Ensure that your PS4 controller is fully charged. Connect the controller to your PS4 using a USB cable and let it charge, do not do this while your console is in rest mode.
  2. Reset the Controller: There is a small reset button on the back of the PS4 controller, near the L2 shoulder button. Use a paperclip or a pin to press and hold the reset button for a few seconds. Once you have reset your controller now test it and see if it fixed the red blinking light.
  3. Try a Different USB Port/Cable: If you’re using the USB ports on your PS4 to establish a connection and charge the controller, consider experimenting with an alternative USB port. There’s a possibility that the port you’re currently using might be experiencing issues. Additionally, try using a different charging cable for your PS4 controller.
  4. Restart your PS4: Restarting the PlayStation 4 can sometimes help resolve connectivity issues and other problems. Turn off your PS4 completely and then turn it back on then turn your controller back on.
  5. Update Controller Firmware: If you can connect your controller to your PS4 and it works, check if there is a new update available for your controller’s firmware.
    You can do this in the PS4 settings under Devices > Controllers > Update Firmware.
  6. Hardware: If the above methods have not helped then it could just be a problem with the controller’s hardware and you need to buy a new controller or try and fix it just be careful when doing this.
