Understanding the Easy System Utility Interface and Tools

Understanding the Easy System Utility Interface

Easy System Utility organises its Windows cleaning, repair, storage and file management tools into sections along the left-hand side of the program.

Each section opens in the main area of the window, while related tools are grouped into tabs across the top. This keeps the interface straightforward even though Easy System Utility contains a large number of utilities.

This guide explains what each part of the Easy System Utility interface does and where to find the tool you need.

The Easy System Utility Home page

See also: How to Activate Easy System Utility PRO Article

The Home page is the first screen shown when Easy System Utility opens.

It provides a quick overview of your Windows PC, including information that may be useful when checking your hardware or troubleshooting a system problem.

Depending on what Windows can detect, the overview may show:

  • Windows version
  • Processor
  • Motherboard
  • Installed memory
  • Graphics card
  • Network adapter
  • Connected storage drives

Each drive also displays its available and used disk space, making the Home page a useful place to check whether one of your drives is becoming full.

The system information shown here is read from Windows. If a particular detail is unavailable, it may not appear or may be shown as unknown.

The left-hand navigation menu

The main navigation menu remains visible down the left side of Easy System Utility.

The available sections are:

  • Home
  • Clean
  • Deep Clean
  • Folders and Files
  • Finder
  • Generator
  • Launch
  • Repair
  • PRO Tools
  • Settings

Selecting one of these options changes the tools displayed in the main area of the program.

Near the bottom of the menu, you will also find shortcuts for starting Easy System Utility as an administrator, activating PRO and checking for updates.

Start ESU as administrator

See also: How to Update Easy System Utility on Windows Article

The Start ESU as administrator button restarts the program with elevated Windows permission.

Most everyday tools can be opened without administrator access, but some cleaning, repair and network tasks need permission to work with protected Windows files, services or settings.

You may need administrator access when:

  • Cleaning protected Windows locations
  • Repairing Windows system files
  • Repairing Windows Update
  • Resetting network components
  • Restarting printer services
  • Changing DNS settings
  • Unlocking protected files or folders

When selected, Windows displays a User Account Control prompt. Choose Yes to reopen Easy System Utility with administrator permission.

Unlock PRO Version

The Unlock PRO Version option opens the activation area.

From here, you can enter the email address used for your purchase and your Easy System Utility or ComputerSluggish Pro+ product key.

Once activated, locked PRO controls become available throughout the interface. The upgrade panel and in-app promotional banner are also removed.

Check for updates

See also: Why Easy System Utility May Require Administrator Permission Article

The update shortcut lets you check whether a newer version of Easy System Utility is available.

When the program detects a new release, this area may change to show New Update Available.

Keeping Easy System Utility updated ensures that you have the latest improvements, supported cleaning locations and fixes.

The Clean section

The Clean section is the main Windows disk cleanup area.

It is divided into Windows and Software tabs.

Windows cleaning

The Windows tab contains cleaning options for data created by Windows.

Available selections can include:

  • Clipboard data
  • Crash dump files
  • Delivery Optimisation files
  • DirectX shader cache
  • DNS cache
  • Downloaded program files
  • Prefetch files
  • Recent file records
  • Recycle Bin
  • Temporary files
  • Thumbnail cache
  • Windows log files
  • Windows Error Report files
  • Windows Defender backup files
  • Custom locations

Tick the categories you want to check, then use Analyze to see how much data has been found.

Nothing is removed during the analysis. The files are only deleted after you select Clean.

Software cleaning

The Software tab contains cleaning options for supported programs and browsers.

These may include cache, history, session and temporary data created by applications such as:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Brave
  • Discord
  • Battle.net
  • Blender
  • LibreOffice

Different programs create different types of data, so the available options vary between applications.

Some browser selections may remove session or login-related information. Read each option before selecting it, particularly if you want to remain signed in to websites.

Save Selections

The Save Selections button stores your current Windows and software cleaning choices.

This makes it quicker to run the same cleanup again later.

Saved selections are also used by the automatic cleaning features included with Easy System Utility PRO.

Include and Exclude buttons

The Include and Exclude buttons provide quick access to custom cleaning locations.

Included folders can be added to the cleanup when Custom Locations is selected.

Excluded folders are protected from supported cleaning operations. This is useful when a folder contains files you do not want Easy System Utility to process.

Analyze and Clean

Use Analyze first when you want to see what has been found without removing anything.

After the scan has completed, review the results and select Clean when you are ready.

Running an analysis before cleaning is particularly useful when you have changed your selections or added a custom location.

Automatic Cleaning

The right-hand side of the Clean section displays the Automatic Cleaning status.

Automatic Cleaning is a PRO feature that can run your saved selections daily, weekly or monthly.

You can also enable cleaning when Windows starts.

The schedule is configured within Settings.

Shutdown after clean

The Shutdown after clean option turns off the computer when the cleaning process has finished.

This can be useful when running a larger cleanup before leaving the PC unattended.

Save any open work before enabling this option.

Rename files before deleting

The option to rename files before deleting them adds an additional step before selected files are removed.

This may help with certain files that cannot be deleted under their current name, although files actively locked by Windows or another program may still remain.

The Deep Clean section

Deep Clean searches for selected file types across a chosen drive.

Unlike the standard cleaner, which checks known Windows and application locations, Deep Clean can search more broadly for files matching selected extensions.

Available file types can include:

  • .tmp
  • .temp
  • .log
  • .dmp
  • .mdmp
  • .chk
  • .wer
  • .bak
  • .old

Select the file types you want to find, choose the drive and click Analyze.

The results table displays the file path, size, type and current status.

You can select individual results or use the options to tick and untick all files. Review the list carefully before selecting Clean, as some applications and games may use files with these extensions for their own data or backups.

The Folders and Files section

Folders and Files contains several tabs for working with files, folders and images.

The individual tools can be used for occasional tasks, while Easy System Utility PRO unlocks the bulk versions.

Unlock Folders

Unlock Folders can help when Windows reports that a folder is in use or cannot be accessed.

The free tool works with one folder at a time. PRO adds the ability to add and process multiple folders together.

A folder may still be unavailable if it is actively required by Windows or protected by security software.

Unlock Files

Unlock Files works in a similar way but is designed for individual files.

You can browse to the file you are having trouble accessing and attempt to unlock it.

PRO users can add several files and process them in bulk.

Image Size

The Image Size tool reduces or changes the dimensions of an image.

The standard tool can process one image. PRO adds bulk image processing along with additional controls for:

  • Custom image width
  • Custom image height
  • Image quality
  • Resampling method

This is useful when preparing several images for a website, email or online upload.

Watermark

The Watermark tool adds a text watermark to an image.

You can enter the watermark text and adjust options such as:

  • Opacity
  • Text colour
  • Font
  • Font size

The free version works with one image, while PRO can apply the same watermark to multiple images.

Rename Folders

Rename Folders allows you to change folder names.

Easy System Utility PRO adds bulk folder renaming, making it possible to add several folders and apply the same naming pattern.

Options can include preserving the original name, adding text and inserting sequential numbers.

Rename Files

Rename Files provides similar controls for files.

The PRO bulk renaming tool is useful when organising groups of photos, downloads or documents without renaming each one separately in File Explorer.

Large Folders

The Large Folders tab allows a selected folder to be permanently deleted.

PRO users can add multiple folders and remove them together.

Because the deletion is permanent, check each folder carefully before beginning.

The Finder section

Finder contains tools for locating stored information and checking what is using disk space.

Largest Files

Largest Files scans a selected drive for files using a large amount of storage.

This can help you find old downloads, recordings, installers, backups and other files that may have been forgotten.

After the scan, review each result before moving or deleting anything.

Largest Folders

Largest Folders shows which folders are consuming the most disk space.

Easy System Utility PRO includes a folder scan depth control. Increasing the depth allows the scan to look further into nested folders, although a deeper scan may take longer.

Wi-Fi Password

The Wi-Fi Password tool displays saved wireless networks and their stored passwords where Windows allows access.

This can be useful when connecting another device to a network you have previously used.

Only view or share passwords for networks you are authorised to access.

Largest User Profile

Largest User Profile checks local Windows user accounts and displays how much disk space each profile is using.

User profiles can become large due to downloads, desktop files, browser data, saved games and application files.

The scan may take some time when profiles contain many files.

Windows product information

The Finder area can also display your Windows product key and operating system information where it can be detected.

Some computers use a digital licence rather than a visible product key, so a key may not always be available.

The Generator section

The Generator section contains the password generator.

Choose the required password length and decide whether to include:

  • Lowercase letters
  • Uppercase letters
  • Numbers
  • Symbols

Select the generate button to create a random password.

The finished password can then be copied to the clipboard.

Easy System Utility PRO adds bulk password generation, allowing several passwords to be created and copied together.

The Launch section

Launch lets you build a personal Quick Launch list inside Easy System Utility.

You can add:

  • Programs
  • Files
  • Folders

Choose the type of item, browse to its location and select Add.

Saved items appear in the list and can also be opened from the Easy System Utility system tray menu when that option is enabled.

Individual items can be removed, or the entire Quick Launch list can be cleared.

The Repair section

The Repair section contains tools designed to attempt common fixes for Windows, browsers, programs and displays.

The tabs are grouped by the type of problem being addressed.

Custom Software Repair

Custom Software Repair allows you to select a program that is not opening or working correctly.

The standard repair attempts common fixes relating to the selected program.

A deeper analysis and repair option is also available with PRO for additional checks.

System file repair

The system file repair tool uses Windows maintenance commands to check protected system files and attempt to replace damaged copies.

This process can take some time and normally requires administrator permission.

Printer repair

Printer repair resets common Windows printing components, including the Print Spooler service.

It can be useful when print jobs are stuck or Windows is having difficulty communicating with a printer.

Windows Update repair

Windows Update repair resets services and temporary update components that can prevent updates from downloading or installing correctly.

Restarting the computer after running the repair may be required.

Graphical glitch repair

The graphical repair option restarts Windows interface components such as File Explorer.

This may help when parts of the Windows desktop, taskbar or Start menu are not responding correctly.

Internet repair

Internet repair resets common Windows networking components.

This may include refreshing the connection, clearing the DNS cache and resetting network settings.

Because network settings are changed, the internet connection may disconnect briefly while the repair runs.

Browser repair

Separate repair options are available for supported browsers, including:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox

These tools attempt common fixes relating to browser files and settings.

Check the information shown before running a browser repair, particularly if you want to keep saved sessions or temporary data.

Dead Pixel Test

The Dead Pixel Test displays full-screen colours to help you inspect a monitor for dead, stuck or unusual pixels.

You can move through the colour sequence, pause it and hide the controls.

Dead Pixel Fixer

The Dead Pixel Fixer displays rapidly changing colours.

The free version allows the fixer to be tried for a limited period. PRO allows it to run for longer.

A pixel fixer may help with some stuck pixels, but it cannot repair physical screen damage or guarantee that a permanently dead pixel will begin working.

The PRO Tools section

PRO Tools contains additional utilities available after activating Easy System Utility PRO.

DNS Changer

The DNS Changer lets you select a network adapter and apply a supported DNS provider.

Available providers can include:

  • Cloudflare
  • Google
  • Quad9
  • OpenDNS
  • CleanBrowsing

The reset option returns the selected adapter to automatic DNS settings.

Changing network settings normally requires administrator permission.

Bulk Uninstaller

The Bulk Uninstaller displays installed programs in a checklist.

Select the programs you want to remove and begin the uninstall process.

Each program may still display its own uninstall window or confirmation prompts.

The list can be refreshed when software has recently been installed or removed.

The Settings section

Settings controls how Easy System Utility behaves.

Available options include:

  • Minimise Easy System Utility to the system tray
  • Start Easy System Utility with Windows
  • Add Quick Clean to the system tray menu
  • Change the interface language
  • Enable or disable anonymous usage statistics
  • Configure Automatic Cleaning
  • Enable cleaning when Windows starts
  • Manage included locations
  • Manage excluded locations
  • Activate Easy System Utility PRO

Select Save after changing the general settings.

Language settings

Easy System Utility supports several interface languages.

Available languages may include:

  • English
  • Arabic
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Polish
  • Spanish

Some changes may require the program to be restarted before all interface text is updated.

Included locations

Included locations allow you to add custom folders to the cleaner.

After adding a folder, select Custom Locations within the Windows Clean tab when you want its contents to be processed.

Only include folders containing files you are comfortable removing.

Excluded locations

Excluded locations protect selected folders from supported cleaning operations.

This can be helpful when a program stores important files inside a location that would otherwise be cleaned.

Check your exclusions if a particular folder is being skipped during a cleanup.

Activate PRO

The Activate PRO tab contains fields for your purchase email and product key.

After entering both details, select Activate Product Key.

Easy System Utility needs an internet connection while checking the licence.

The in-app PRO panel

Free users may see a PRO information panel on the right side of the window and a promotional banner along the bottom.

The panel highlights features such as:

  • Automatic Cleaning
  • Bulk Options
  • Software and program repair

Selecting a locked PRO feature opens the upgrade or activation area.

After a valid licence is activated, the promotional areas are removed and the interface adjusts to use the additional space.

Finding the right Easy System Utility tool

The easiest way to use the interface is to think about the type of task you want to complete.

Use Clean or Deep Clean when you want to remove Windows junk files.

Use Finder when you need to discover what is using disk space.

Use Folders and Files when you want to unlock, rename, resize, watermark or delete an item.

Use Repair when Windows, a browser or another program is not working correctly.

Use PRO Tools for DNS management and uninstalling multiple programs.

Use Settings when you want to change startup behaviour, cleaning automation, custom locations, language or activation details.

Once you are familiar with the left-hand menu, you can move quickly between the different Easy System Utility tools without needing separate Windows utilities for each job.
