Download Files When Websites Have Errors!

Sometimes when you go to download a file or program from certain websites, the link or download button may not be working.

This could be due to a certain website being down, or a web page with an error that causes the download link to fail or not allow you to click on it at all.

Luckily there is an easy way to overcome this issue if you come across it.

We used Firefox to show you how to do this, but the method used will work in other browsers as well, you might need to just select a different button.

To download files when the link or button is broken:

1. Head to the website you are having problems with >Hover over the download link/button and look in the bottom left-hand corner for the file name (this is what you will be looking for in the next step e.g .msi, .exe, .zip)

2. You now need to right-click anywhere on the webpage > Click on View page source > Press Ctrl + F on your keyboard (to bring up the search box) > Type in and search for the file name that you found in step 1

3. Once you have found the download link in the page source highlight and copy the link > Paste it into the address bar in a new tab in your Web browser > Press enter and then you should have the option to save the file and continue the download as normal

****Top Tip****
You can also find the download link by right-clicking on the web page > Press Inspect element > Click on the download button and you will be shown the download link which you can copy and paste into your web browser, to download the file as normal
