Playstation 4 Controller Not Compatible With Fortnite On PS5 Console
If you have just brought a PS5 and installed Fortnite to play some split-screen and you only have one Playstation 5 controller, then you may have tried using your PS4 controller for your other player.
However, when you have connected your PS4 controller to your PS5 and booted up Fortnite have you come across an error in Fortnite that keeps saying that the PS4 controller is not supported?
The error message says:
“Can’t use the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller to play PS5 games”

Can you use PS4 controller in Fortnite on PS5?
The short answer to this question is no. Unfortunately, you cannot use your PS4 controller to play Fortnite on the Playstation 5.
You can absolutely use your PS4 controller on the PS5 to control things such as the menus and settings on the Home screen but unfortunately, this is correct and you cannot use the Playstation 4 controller on the Playstation 5 to play Fortnite Battle Royale.
So you will need to purchase another PS5 controller to be able to play Fortnite split-screen on your PS5!
Whether you will be able to use the PS4 controller on the PS5 to play split-screen Fortnite in the future we will have to wait and see but for now, it is not possible.
