Pokemon Scarlet Violet performance issues

Have you noticed the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet performance issues? If so, then you are not the only one! Whether you are experiencing lag, glitches, bad graphics, FPS drops, or the game is just performing poorly, then this seems to be very common in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on Nintendo Switch.

The latest Pokemon game by Game Freak and Nintendo got me very excited. With its open-world game style, new Pokémon to catch, being able to link up with friends, and the ability to Terastallize our Pokémon.

However, there seem to be many issues with the performance of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Luckily, there are a couple of steps you can do to help boost bad performance and improve lag in the pokemon game.

Why is Pokémon Violet/Scarlet performance so bad?

Like many others, I have found the game to lag quite often, the graphics are not great and pop in, and it is just very slow and laggy. There are also issues with the game crashing and getting stuck on the loading screen.

It seems that the Switch is struggling to keep up with the game itself. However, a new patch for the game could help improve or fix the performance and lag issues.

Your resolution also could also be affecting the graphics and could be causing the Pokémon Scarlet/Violet lag and FPS issues.

How to fix Pokemon Scarlet/Violet bad performance issues

Below are different methods you can do that should help reduce the lagging, stuttering, and performance issues that you are having within Pokemon Scarlet or Pokemon Violet.

Fix 1: Restart game

The first thing to do is restart the game. If you have entered a part of the Pokemon Scarlet/Violet with low FPS and lagging issues open the menu and save your progress then quit the game and open it again.

This will refresh the memory, etc on your Switch and help improve the performance of the part you are on.

1. Press the Home button on your Joy-Con controller

2. Now highlight the Pokemon Scarlet/Violet game > Press X on your Joy-con

3. Select Close game

Fix 2: Play undocked

If you are playing Pokemon Scarlet/Violet with your Nintendo Switch docked then try playing undocked. This will slightly lower the resolution and graphics, helping reduce some of the performance problems.

Just make sure you have a fully charged battery. If your battery is getting low then this can also cause performance issues in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet.

You can view the level of your battery with the battery icon in the corner of your screen.

Fix 3: Change resolution

Change the resolution of your Nintendo Switch within the settings. We can lower the resolution and although the game won’t look as pretty, it will help fix performance problems until Game Freak resolves the issues.

1. Open System Settings

2. Go to TV Output > Select TV Resolution

3. Check your resolution is correct or try changing it to a lower value > Press to confirm your choice

Fix 4: Storage

If you have installed Pokemon Scarlet/Violet to external storage on your Nintendo Switch, then move the game to the internal storage. It will help make the game run faster and smoother on your Switch console.

I hope one of the above methods helped fix Pokemon Scarlet/Violet performance issues on your Nintendo Switch and you can now enjoy playing the game with less lag.

Although we can help reduce the issues and boost the performance, we will need to wait for Game Freak to release a patch that fixes the lagging, stuttering, and low FPS in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet.

Nintendo are now aware of some of the performance issues in Pokemon Violet/Scarlet and fingers crossed that there will be an update soon.
